Core Maths is a golden opportunity to make sure all students to age 18 develop and apply their maths skills, making them confident with number in the work place and future studies.
Yet, with its emphasis on real world problem-solving, Core Maths requires a very different approach to teaching and learning to GCSE and A-level Maths. Taught appropriately, Core Maths can give students renewed motivation to engage with maths and greater understanding of its value to them and their futures.
If you are a teacher of Core Maths and would like to explore:
what is different about this curriculum
how it links with other subjects
how your colleagues in other schools and colleges are going about it
what resources are available to you to support you and your students.
please join us at Walsall College for a free Core Maths workshop on Monday 3rd July, 4.30pm – 6.00pm
have the opportunity to discuss your experiences / expectations of teaching Core Maths, and receive relevant guidance in response
engage with a range of Core Maths resources and consider their application in your context with your students
identify how Core Maths supports students’ statistical and number work in other areas of the curriculum
joint plan a future lesson based on what you have learned in the workshop
Who should attend?
Existing teachers of Core Maths, as well as teachers preparing to teach Core Maths curriculum for the first time.
