This activity reviews some of the key points to be considered when designing an effective questionnaire.
Students will need a basic familiarity with some of the issues involved in designing a questionnaire. This task builds on and reinforces prior learning in this area from GCSE mathematics.
This task is suitable for a whole-class introduction to the topic of questionnaire design. There are ample opportunities for whole-class discussion, and the practical task where students design their own questionnaire is suitable for work in pairs or small groups.
The activity is supplied as a PowerPoint presentation for teacher use.
Students could use a variety of software packages to design their own questionnaires, including word processors, spreadsheets, or online survey tools.
This activity would be an ideal precursor to a data collection exercise forming part of a larger statistics project.
This activity was developed by the Mathematics department at The Duston School, Northamptonshire.
